I was first introduced to Katie’s powerful work when I read her guest post on one of the blogs that I read regularly, Goodlifezen since then, she’s also done a guest post on RowdyKittens.com.
Katie has been described as a ‘director, writer, motivator, runner, vegetarian and mother who writes a blog called Momentum Gathering where she encourages simple, positive actions for joyful and vibrant life change.’ What drew me to Katie’s writing was her candid discussion of the fact that a lot of people tend to move through life really quickly in order to be ‘insanely productive’, but that this oftentimes tends to slow us down.
My favorite quote from her first article I read was when she advised readers of the following:
‘Be sure the foundation of what you’re working towards in life is solid and meaningful, not flat and lifeless.’ You can read more at her blog, www.momentumgathering.com, which she describes as ‘a gathering place meant to inspire joyful life change through simple, doable action.’ You can also read more about Katie’s life and work in this post…

Blissful Monkey is the name of the yoga studio down the street from me in my new community, and it really got my mind moving this morning. I woke up at 7:30 feeling wide awake, but thinking I should let myself sleep in…even though, sadly, that time is still sleeping in. So I went back to bed and woke up at 8:30, at which point I felt like it was time to get up…
Only I couldn’t quite decide what to do with myself. Since I’d fallen asleep early Friday night, trying to catch up on Glee, maybe I should watch the rest of the Halloween episode. Or maybe I should read the NY Times online and catch up on the world. Ooooh, maybe I’d really enjoy reading the Oprah magazine I’d just picked up on finding your life’s calling. No, no, actually, what I think would REALLY feel good would be to make a plan, a plan to get me moving….YOGA.

The following quote is from an email from a woman that I met at a conference through the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship on Program Evaluation: Deliver the most impact from your programs. Elizabeth and I became friends instantly during our break when she asked me to share with her the fun things to do in Boston. Being that she was from Calgary and I am from Boston, we had a lot to share, and realized we also had a lot in common.
At the end of the day, she left a list for me of things we had talked about, including an awesome online radio station that I listen to, along with the name of an incredible music festival in the mountains of Canada…along with an invite to go and see her! She had taken advantage of a free half day in Boston to go on a bike tour, and shared with me that every weekend she goes on a 30 mile, beautiful bike ride, that happens to have a delicious coffee shop at the half way point. I admire how she lives her life, and I reached out to ask her about that. What follows is the juiciest quote from the email that I wanted to share with you all.

‘Joy… hmmm…
It’s cliche, but I don’t care – My family is the number one thing that brings me joy!
The beach, I feel like I have a most unreal connection to the ocean. Maybe it’s the ebbs and flows… ironic
Completing things. The feeling of accomplishment and pride, I guess.
Opening the door for strangers. It’s an easy, cheap way to get a smile :)
Cooking with my husband because it’s so rare that we can actually take the time to make a real, honest-to-goodness meal together.
Making my stepdaughter laugh – it’s easy, but it doesn’t matter. It sounds just as good the one millionth time as it did the first time.
There are a lot of things that bring me joy. Actually, I think the majority of most of my days bring me joy.
What about you? You’ve got my mind going now….’

Rowdy Kittens: Social Change Through Simple Living
Tammy Strobel is an absolute, total and complete modern day inspiration. She’s found a way to do what she loves for her job. While Tammy does have a few sources of income, she also writes a blog daily. After saving up enough to live on for six months to a year, Tammy left her job of ten years in the non-profit world working on the campaign against violence towards women to write and to do what she loves, every single day. You can check out her blog, Rowdy Kittens, for the full story on how she came up with that name and other fun tidbits and words of inspiration.
